Today, your first stop is Mount Nebo, the mountain where Moses was allowed to see the Holy Land but not allowed to enter it. Ever since the first days of Christianity this mountain has been a holy place and a destination for pilgrimage. Like Moses, from here you have a great view over Jordan, the Dead Sea and Israel. When the weather is clear, you should even be able to see Jerusalem, which is about 40 miles away. Continue to Madaba the 'City of Mosaics' that stands perched on an archaeological site with more than 4,000 years of history buried beneath it. Visit St. George's Church which houses the world famous mosaic floor. Next drive to Kerak, you will visit the huge castle where Saladin and Richard Lionheart fought during the crusade. Breakfast. Put on your walking shoes for a trek through the 'Rose-Red City' of Petra with your expert guide. Entrance to the city is through the Siq, a narrow gorge, over 1km in length, which is flanked on either side by soaring, 80m high cliffs. The colors and formations of the rocks are dazzling. As you reach the end of the Siq you will catch your first glimpse of Al-Khazneh (the Treasury). There are hundreds of elaborate rock-cut tombs and a massive Roman-style theatre. Drive to Dead Sea for overnight.
Meals: Breakfast / Overnight: Amman.

Day 12: Petra - Dead Sea - Amman.

after breakfast , drive up the Jordan Valley back towards Amman. After passing some extensive salt flats at the southern end of the Dead Sea we follow the coastline north with Israel visible on the far shore to the west and beautiful mountain scenery and canyons rising straight up from the road to the east. En-route we will stop for a swim in the strange, incredibly salty waters of the Dead Sea. stop along the way to enjoy a 'swim', though the intensely salty waters lead to a very strange swimming experience. In fact, normal swimming is not possible, and it is easier (and more photogenic!) just to float, sitting or lying in the water. Be careful not to get any water in your eyes, as it will sting. Towels and showers are available, and a fun mud bath can also be taken here. The evening is free for a last farewell meal in Amman.
